
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has declared the Guiuan-Sulangan Peninsula Road in Eastern Samar a national road.
The newly declared national road is now under the jurisdiction of the DPWH Eastern Samar District Engineering Office (ESDEO) pursuant to the Department Order No. 83 signed by Secretary Mark A. Villar on July 06, 2017.
The 19.2-kilometer road is part of the partnership project of DPWH and Department of Tourism (DOT) under the “Converging Program of Enhancing Tourism Access.”
Regional Office VIII completed the concrete paving of a total of 4.6 kilometer portion of the road on February 15, 2014 amounting to ₱100 million.
On January 25, 2015, another improvement was undertaken by the regional office, paving 10.9 kilometers worth ₱120 million under the Tourism Destination Fund Source of 2014.
The road provides access to tourist destination approaching the Municipality of Guiuan to Sulangan like the Shrine of St Anthony de Padua and beach resorts.
It will also provide ease on travel and connectivity to these areas, spur economic development particularly in the tourism industry that can improve the lives of local people.
