
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) turns over seven (7) reconstructed school buildings as well as their corresponding documents and spare parts reserved for plumbing and electricity to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Education (DepEd) in April 10, 2016 at the DPWH Regional Office 8 Baras, Palo, Leyte.
The turn-over ceremony was led by Mr. Asao Sakaz, Consultant of Mohri, Architect & Associates, Inc., Mr. Hidekazu Furukawa, Project Engineer of Tsuchiya Corporation, and DPWH 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon. Also in attendance were: DPWH JICA Coordinator Engineer Serafin S. Lago and some six representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd).
These Reconstruction of Elementary School Building Projects are JICA Grant in Aid under the Program for the Rehabilitation and Recovery from Typhoon Yolanda. School building beneficiaries include: Osmeña Elementary School, Marabut, Western Samar;Giporlos Elementary School, Eastern Samar; Sto Niño Elementary School and San Roque Elementary School, Tanauan, Leyte; Tolosa Elementary School, Tolosa, Leyte; Dulag Elementary School, Dulag, Leyte; and Mc Arthur Elementary School, Mac Arthur, Leyte.
These buildings are essential in ensuring our students’ quality education as they now have additional classrooms that are conducive for learning, said Mrs. Evelyn O. Encina, Principal of San Roque Elementary School, Tanauan, Leyte.
Mr. Hidekazu Furukawa expressed his sincere gratitude to DPWH and DepEd who supported their projects.
The Subproject of Reconstruction of Elementary Schools and Construction of Rural Health Unit are under the Program for Rehabilitation and Recovery from Typhoon Yolanda.
