Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar conducted random inspection on the projects in Region V after the onslaught brought by Typhoon Nina.
Villar specifically checked the condition of projects in Camarines Sur, Albay, and Catanduanes, the areas directly affected by Typhoon Nina when it hit the region on Christmas Day.
On a meeting with the key officials in the regional office, Villar urged the construction of an expressway running from Lucena City in Quezon province to the provinces and cities in Bicol.
“Constructing expressways, areas accessible by road will undeniably spur economic progress,” he said.
Home to world’s perfect conical shape Mount Mayon Volcano in Albay, world’s largest fishes known as “butanding,” and world’s smallest fish called “sinarapan” in Camarines Sur, the region is a promising tourist destination to behold.
“Bicol will be assured of a robust economy once this expressway will be realized,” Regional Director Reynaldo Tagudando said.
“Make efforts to have legacy projects here in Bicol,” Villar added.
Villar was accompanied by DPWH Undersecretaries Romeo S. Momo and Karen Olivia, Regional Director Reynaldo Tagudando, and Camarines Sur 2nd District Representative Lray Villafuerte.
