DPWH Improves River Control Structure in Badian, Cebu

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reconstructed damaged section of the river flood control system in Barangay Matutinao, Badian, Cebu.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Region 7 Director Danilo J. Villa Jr. said that the rehabilitation of the Matutinao River Structure was necessary due to the area’s susceptibility to flooding.

Matutinao River serves as the catch basin of multi-layered and famous Kawasan waterfall system sitting at the foot of the Mantalungon Mountain Range.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a flood mitigation structure and a farm-to-market road (FMR) that now benefits rural communities in the municipalities of Santa Cruz and Torrijos, spurring economic growth in Marinduque.

In a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Marinduque District Engineer Richard Emmanuel P. Ragragio identified the completed project as the 371-lineal meter flood control structure strategically built in the low-lying area of Barangay Poctoy, in the municipality of Torrijos.

Traveling to various areas in the central Iloilo Province is now safer and more convenient with the upgrading of the New Lucena-Sta. Barbara Road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel, the project involved asphalt paving of the 8.6-kilometer, two (2)-lane road with 613-meter lined canal and sidewalk, including 222-meter concrete shoulders.

The Department of Public Works and Highways Central Office hosted a prayer vigil and a motorcade with the image of Sto. Niño during office lunch break on Thursday, January 23, 2025, as part of the Department’s eucharistic celebration for the Feast of Señor Sto. Niño. The prayer vigil, attended by key officials and employees, will conclude at 9:00 am tomorrow, followed by a farewell prayer, traditional “Sunduan”, and a regular Friday Mass.
