The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed upgrading works along two (2) major roads in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental that will facilitate better connectivity between the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel reported the completion of a concreting project along a 1.7-kilometer, 2-lane section of Kabankalan-Bayawan Boundary Road in Barangay Bantayan.
Besides hastening transport of goods and services, the upgraded road section also facilitates a smoother and more cost-efficient roadway linkage between the two Negros island provinces through Barangay Mandu-ao in Bayawan City.
Meanwhile, DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office has widened from 2 to 4 lanes the whole stretch of Kabankalan-Bais Road with the completion of its last 2.5-kilometer section in Barangay Tagukon.
“Since this highway also connects Negros Occidental to Negros Oriental, increasing its traffic capacity will provide better transport access and benefit more motorists, especially big trucks hauling products going to and from the neighboring provinces,” said Director Oropel.
Other construction works on the projects include slope protection and grouted riprap, with safety features such as solar LED lights and pavement markings.
The road paving along Kabankalan-Bayawan Road was implemented in the amount of P67.5 million, while the final phase of widening along Kabankalan-Bais Road costs P39.4 million.
