The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed a road project to facilitate better access to a remote agricultural community in the town of Kabugao, Apayao Province.

DPWH Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Khadaffy Tanggol, in his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, said that under its Roads Leveraging Linkages for Industry and Trade (ROLL-IT) Program with the Department of Trade and Industry, a 1-kilometer dirt road was converted into a 2-lane concrete road in Barangay Madduang.

“This road project was implemented to support various industries in the area and its neighboring barangays of Dagara and Maragat, which include blacksmithing, handicrafts, furniture, high value crops and coffee,” said Director Tanggol.

The newly-constructed road with pavement width of 6.7 meters also includes drainage and slope protection structures, as well as curb and gutter, which are standard safety components along mountainous roads.

Implemented by the DPWH Apayao 1st District Engineering Office, the road project in Barangay Madduang was completed in the amount of P67.55 million
