The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has improved a 3-kilometer portion of an access road to address transportation issues caused by poor road conditions in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
Implemented by Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office, the project involved the construction of 6.70-meter wide portland cement concrete pavement with 1.50-meter wide road shoulders on both sides.
Other construction works include sidewalks as well as drainage and slope protection with grouted riprap and stone masonry.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel, this portion of the road leads to the upland barangays of Anabo, San Jose, Gen. Luna, Del Pilar, Nueva Invencion, and Vista Alegre, which serve as primary sources of agricultural produce in the municipality.
With the road upgrade, transportation of various farm products has become faster and more convenient, aiding in the economic development of the locality.
Residents of the said barangays have also expressed gratitude for the completed project as it has improved travel safety and reduced traffic accidents, especially at night and during inclement weather.
The road improvement project was implemented in the amount of P38.7 million.
