The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of an access road leading to Mount Cagua in Gonzaga, Cagayan.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region II Director Reynaldo C. Alconcel, mentioned that with the construction of a 2.1-kilometer two (2)-lane road, motorists now enjoy a smooth, and fast driving experience, particularly in Barangay Santa Clara.
Other than promoting local connectivity in the scenic province, the newly paved road also provides safer and more convenient travel for tourists and mountaineers who can enjoy a panoramic view of Mount Cagua of the northern part of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range.
“Prior to the completion of the road, hikers need to walk 3 to 4 hours just to reach the tip of Mt. Cagua,” said Secretary Bonoan.
The access road project was completed in the amount of P34.2 million under the CY 2023 Tourism Road Infra Program (TRIP).
The road improvement project was implemented by DPWH Cagayan 1st District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Tourism.
