Agricultural communities will benefit from the constructed flood mitigation project of the Department of Public Works and Highways along Bicol River in Barangay Mangayawan, Canaman, Camarines Sur.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH-Camarines Sur 3rd District Engineer Romeo D. Doloiras said that prior to the completion of the slope protection project, residents were experiencing severe flooding that affected both their welfare and livelihood.
“During rainy and typhoon season, Bicol River would overflow, damaging farmlands in the area due to flooding,” said District Engineer Doloiras.
With an allocation of P130 million from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the DPWH constructed a 547-lineal meter of revetment structure that would safeguard the vulnerable community.
The flood control project would serve as a safe passageway for locals going to their farmlands and an irrigation path for the nearby rice fields in the area.
District Engineer Doloiras said that the entire stretch of riverwall was installed with safety railings to safeguard the residents crossing the provided pathway.
Completed in December 2023 which is two (2) months ahead of its target completion date, the project was implemented by DPWH-Camarines Sur 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO).
