DPWH Begins Construction of By-Pass Road Leading to Calbayog’s Gateway

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has commenced the first phase of civil works for a new bypass road leading to Calbayog Airport, starting at Barangay Trinidad connecting the diversion road in Barangay Cagsalaosao, Calbayog City, Samar.

Based on a report submitted by DPWH Region 8 Director Allan S. Borromeo, Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that Phase 1 involves the construction of a two-lane, 6.7-meter wide paved road spanning a total of 259.5 meters, 719.9-meter long riprap, and the installation of 27 solar LED lights, costing P31.76-million.

The entire road project will be 1.19 kilometers long when completed, with a 1,270-lineal meter drainage structure and 8,128 square meters of slope protection.

Scope of works also include a 385-meter embankment and 44 reinforced concrete pipe culverts to allow water to flow freely, given that the area is situated along a rice field.

This multi-year project will serve as the main road for locals and tourists once a portion of Daang Maharlika, which is part of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) jurisdiction is closed.

Implemented by DPWH Samar First District Engineering Office, the project is seen to improve the socio-economic status in the area and boost tourism industry in Western Samar.
