The completion by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of a new slope protection structure at portion of Tagudin-Cervantes Road in the Municipality of Suyo, Ilocos Sur will facilitate safer travels for motorists.

Based on a report from DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar announced that the 85-meter shotcrete-sprayed concrete at the landslide-prone road section in Barangay Man-Atong provides protection for travelers.

“We are confident that this new structure will minimize roadway cuts and stabilizes the slope especially during this rainy season, therefore ensuring safety of motorists and unimpeded delivery of agricultural produce,” said Secretary Villar.

Constructed at a cost of P30 million under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the project involves construction of shotcrete with reinforcing fiber (wire mesh) along Tagudin-Cervantes Road.

“With this new project, the town of Suyo can also benefit from safer and unhampered delivery of medical and other essential services especially in this pandemic,” added Director Tan.
