
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio L. Singson of the led the inauguration of the newly constructed Culasi-Libas Bridge and Approaches, along Roxas City Circumferential Road, in the province of Capiz last April 12, 2014. Secretary Singson was joined by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas and Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.
Also present during the inauguration were DPWH VI Regional Director Edilberto D. Tayao and Assistant Regional Director Lea N. Delfinado, District Engineer Sanny Boy Oropel of DPWH Capiz First District Engineering Office and local government officials of Roxas City and Province of Capiz.
The construction of Culasi-Libas Bridge is a component of Roxas City Circumferential Road and one of the four (4) bridges for construction along this road section.
Roxas City Circumferential Road is a priority project of the City of Roxas and the Province of Capiz that will serve as a by-pass road for transportation of goods and passengers going to and from Culasi Port and Panay town and the adjoining north-eastern towns of Capiz, without passing thru the busy central business area of Roxas City.
Constructed at a cost of P143.497 Million from FY 2012 DPWH Infrastructure Program, Culasi-Libas Bridge is founded on bored piles and includes construction of 2-lane Waagner Biro Modular Steel Bridge (Truss Type) with the length of 95.80 lineal meters. Also included in the project is the construction of 2.94-kilometer access road with 1.50-meter shoulders on both sides.
The project aims to provide fast and reliable transport system between the urban center and the rural areas that would consequently spread agriculture and fishery development. The improvement of the mobility will also give boost to the promotion of tourism, increase economic activities and upgrade the standard of living of residence along the project area.
