
A total of P932.56 Million worth of infrastructure projects are being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways, Region 6 to improve the road network leading Boracay Island in the province of Aklan.
This is to address road traffic demand for the increasing number of tourist, foreign and local, flocking to Boracay Island.
Of the total amount, P531.72 Million is allocated for the improvement and widening of Aklan West Road with the total length of 57 kilometers.
The improvement and widening of Aklan East Road, which is from Estancia in Iloilo to Altavas in Aklan, with the total length of 12 kilometers has an allocation of P400.84 Million.
The two projects are being implemented and supervised by DPWH Regional Office 6.
The remaining amount of P32.56 Million is allocated for the improvement of road network, implemented and supervised by Aklan District Engineering Office.
According to District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella of Aklan District Engineering Office, DPWH has been implementing widening and maintenance operations in Aklan West and East roads and bridges since 2013 to facilitate faster and smoother land travel.
DPWH is monitoring the implementation of projects to ensure that roads and bridges leading to Boracay Island are in good and serviceable conditions.
Boracay Island is chosen to be one of the venues of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) Summit this May, 2015.
Meantime, DPWH, Aklan DEO has allocated a total of P840 Million for the implementation of various infrastructure projects in Aklan this year.
The projects include improvement and widening of roads, flood control projects, multi-purpose buildings and farm-to-market roads.
