Locals, especially farmers in Barangay Tablac, Candon City, province of Ilocos Sur, are now benefitting from the completion of a flood control structure implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Citing a report from DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, Secretary Mark A. Villar said that Tablac-Bagar River Control project was undertaken to ensure that residents, as well as their source of livelihood are protected during the wet season.

“It is imperative to implement the project due to the frequent overflowing of water from the nearby creek which has caused damage to nearby communities and farmlands,” said Secretary Villar.

“This structure will solve the common problems in the area such as soil degradation and scouring which was brought about by high water levels during heavy rains,” added Secretary Villar.

The Tablac-Bagar River Control Project was implemented by DPWH Ilocos Sur 2nd District Engineering Office under the leadership of District Engineer Jose G. Ginete Jr., with a project cost of P9.7-million under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
