ARAYAT, PAMPANGA— Thousands of Kapampangan residents will rest unstirred in the coming rainy season after the completion of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) rehabilitation project of the breached dike of the Apalit-Arayat along Brgy Cupang here.
This P124-million rehabilitation project included slope protection set back levee with steel sheet piles.
The flood control project was funded by DPWH and the civil works were given to L.R. Tiqui Construction.
“The completion of the rehabilitation of the Apalit-Arayat dike and slope protection is very vital for the safety of most of the residents of Pampanga. If it weren’t rehabilitated, Pampanga river overflow will always be a threat to the lives and livelihood of these Kapampangans,” said Regional Director Antonio Molano, Jr.
Molano instructed Pampanga 1st District Engineer Enrico Guilas to inspect with Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda the finished dike on Monday.
Some of the officials of the province and the municipalities of Apalit and Arayat joined the activity.
Governor Pineda commended DPWH for its “sustained initiative to reinforce, rehabilitate and improve their engineering intervention to prevent the recurrence of the collapse of the said setback levee.”
Moreover, Governor Pineda thanked DPWH Secretary Singson in behalf of the residents of Arayat, Sta. Ana, Mexico, Magalang and San Fernando as they need not to worry about floodings, come the typhoon season.
