DPWH joins Global Road Safety Leadership Course

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI served as one of the partner agencies in the first localized adoption of the Global Road Safety Leadership Course (GRSLC) held at the Damires Hills in Janiuay, Iloilo.

DPWH representative Engr. Ray Adrian Macalalag lectured on identifying and measuring risk factors in road traffic injuries, as well as the role of infrastructure and urban design in road safety.

Experts from other government agencies such as the World Health Organization-Western Pacific Region (WHO-WPR), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) were invited to give valuable insights on their concerned topics.

Also present were road safety advocates from private sector such as Vera Files, and Initiatives for Dialogue and Empowerment through Alternative Legal Service.

The event was organized by the Department of Health (DOH) Regional Office VI through their Violence and Injury Prevention Program headed by Dr. Mary Ann Sta. Lucia with an aim to give a comprehensive road safety knowledge and management skills to supervisory and managerial level officers as well as legislators and officials from local government units all over the region.

The GRSLC is a bi-annual course coordinated and delivered by the Global Road Safety Partnership, in partnership with Johns Hopkins University’s International Injury Research Unit based in Baltimore, Maryland, United States funded by the Bloomberg Philanthropies.
