
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) in a Tree Planting activity during the National Arbor Day celebration held last June 30, 2018 at Barangay Daja in Maasin, Iloilo.
Engr. Marilou G. Zamora, DPWH Region 6 OIC-Chief of Planning and Design Division, led the more than 100 employees of the Department coming from Iloilo City District Engineering Office, Iloilo 1st District Engineering Office, Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office, and Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office.
The participants traversed three (3) rivers in Barangay Daja and enjoyed planting “Coffee Trees” and “Narra Trees” saplings along the side of the road.
In line with the Republic Act No. 10176 otherwise known as “An Act Reviving the Observance of Arbor Day by authorizing the Local Government the Responsibilities for Celebrating the Day for Tree Planting as an Annual Event”, the DPWH adheres to the observance of Arbor Day.
Arbor is from the Latin word meaning Tree and Arbor Day is a special occasion in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees.
