Motorists from Iloilo City bound north, vice versa, will soon have alternate route with the construction of the Barotac Nuevo Junction Iloilo East Coast- Capiz Road By-pass road.
The said by-pass road, which includes the Road Right-of-Way (RROW) acquisition, is implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI, with the contract cost of P99.739 million.

A ground breaking ceremony for the said project, attended by Iloilo 4th District Congressman Ferjenel Biron, officials from DPWH, Local Government Units (LGUs) and stakeholders, was held recently to start the construction.

The project involves the opening of new 4-lane, 0.30-meter thick Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road covering a total length of 1.75 kilometers including slope protection.

According to DPWH 6 OIC-Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto, the construction of the by-pass road would lessen travel time from Iloilo City going north and vice versa by-passing the busy poblacion proper, thereby enhancing the faster delivery of goods and services.

Engineer Mary Jean Maghari added that the by-pass road would provide motorists and the riding public an alternate route, hence, decongesting the main thoroughfare.

Congressman Biron also stressed that a vital measurement of a fast-developing area is the presence of road and structures, thus, this by-pass road could attract locals and investors to put up business that would eventually improve the economic condition in the area.

This by-pass road is one of the three high impact by-pass road projects implemented by DPWH in the northern part of Iloilo, which includes the Passi By-pass Road and Zarraga By-pass Road.
