Following the recent onslaught of Typhoon Kristine in many parts of the country, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been conducting massive cleanup drives and repair works on national roads and bridges to ensure road safety and efficient travel experience for the upcoming All Souls Day and All Saints Day.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan directed the deployment of composite teams to strategic locations nationwide to manage the anticipated surge of motorists, ensuring smoother and safer travel from 8:00 am October 31, 2024, until 5:00 pm November 2, 2024.

Thirteen (13) national road sections are closed to traffic: one (1) in Region II, two (2) in Region III, three (3) in Region IV-A, one (1) in Region IV-B, five (5) in Region V, and one (1) in Region VII due to high water elevation, flooding, collapsed road, landslide, fallen electric posts, silted pavement, road collapse, rockslide, and road slip.

Three (3) national bridges are unpassable: one (1) in Region II, one (1) in Region IV-A, and one (1) in Region V due to flooding and collapsed bridge.

Eighteen (18) national road sections are closed to traffic: one (1) in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), one (1) in Region II, two (2) in Region III, three (3) in Region IV-A, one (1) in Region IV-B, nine (9) in Region V, and one (1) in Region VII due to rock collapse, high water elevation, flooding, collapsed road, landslide, fallen electric posts, silted pavement, road collapse, collapsed pavement, rockslide, and road slip.

Three (3) national bridges are unpassable: one (1) in Region II, one (1) in Region IV-A, and one (1) in Region V due to flooding and collapsed bridge.

Following Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine,” the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has intensified efforts to restore accessibility and ensure public safety across storm-affected areas. Mobilizing Disaster and Incident Management Teams (DIMT) from Regional and District Engineering Offices, DPWH has prioritized rapid deployment to address the storm’s impact on infrastructure.

Twenty-one (21) national road sections are closed to traffic: three (3) in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), one (1) in Region II, one (1) in Region III, five (5) in Region IV- A, one (1) in Region IV-B, nine (9) in Region V, and one (1) in Region VII due to flooding, series of soil collapse, fallen trees, rock collapse, landslide, mud and debris flow, fallen utility posts, collapsed road, mud slide, collapsed/washed out bridge, collapsed pavement, rock slide, and road slip.

As of the 12:00 NN situational report on October 23, 2024, from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Bureau of Maintenance, thirty (30) road sections remain closed to traffic due to the impacts of Tropical Cyclone “Kristine.”

The affected areas are two (2) road sections in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), four (4) in Region IV-A, one (1) in Region IV-B, twenty-two (22) in Region V, one (1) in Region VIII.

Heavy rains and strong winds brought by Tropical Cyclone ‘Kristine’ have hampered the ongoing clearing operations of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along the Sibuyan Circumferential Road in Romblon Province while numerous road sections across the Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions remain impassable due to flooding.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Bureau of Maintenance has reported 14 road closures and restricted access in Regions V (Bicol) and VIII (Eastern Visayas) as a result of Tropical Cyclone “Kristine.”

As of 12 AM on October 23, 2024, these closures have been attributed to severe flooding, landslides, rockslides, debris flow, and road collapse.
