The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is working on two (2) flood control projects to protect residents in the Municipality of Capas, Tarlac from threat of inundation.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary Roberto R. Bernardo, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino identified the two (2) flood control projects as the dike constructed along the Bangut River and the ongoing river wall rehabilitation along O’Donnell River.
Completed in the amount of P94.5 million, a 557.2-meter dike was constructed along the right bank of Bangut River in Barangay Sta. Lucia.
The newly-built dike is connected to the existing concrete river walls in the area to strengthen the first line of protection of residents against possible overflowing of the Bangut River due to excessive rain.
Meanwhile, the restoration of a 282.8-meter river wall on the right bank of O’Donnell River also in Brgy. Sta. Lucia is currently in the works and is expected to be completed this month of October 2022.
The P48.95-million repair works aim to rehabilitate the structure along O’Donnell River that was damaged by previous typhoons.
Both projects are under the implementation of DPWH Tarlac Second District Engineering Office (DEO) with funding sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022.
