DPWH Strengthens Flood Protection in Floridablanca, Pampanga

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

Two (2) flood control structures were recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along active water channels traversing the Municipality of Floridablanca in Pampanga.

Successfully implemented by the DPWH Pampanga 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) are the construction of slope protection structures along Porac River in Barangay Valdez and Santol Creek in Barangay San Jose.

Based on reports from DPWH Pampanga 2nd DEO District Engineer Gregorio D. Audea, Jr., DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan bared that an old earth dike along the Barangay Valdez section of Porac River is now improved into a P19.59-million revetment wall measuring 124 lineal meters in length.

The newly-built Barangay Valdez revetment wall is an addition to the 85.77-lineal-meter slope protection in the area built in 2021.

Also along Porac River in Barangay Valdez, an ongoing construction of a 346-lineal-meter segment of flood control structure adjoining the existing slope protections is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, DPWH Pampanga 2nd DEO also completed a 347.52-lineal-meter slope protection in Barangay San Jose section of Santol Creek worth P29.3 million.

The existing, newly-completed, and underway flood control structures along Floridablanca’s major river system ensure the protection of residents’ lives and properties against inundation come rainy season.
