Better and safer roads are underway for locals and tourists of Coron, Palawan.
Regional Director Wilfredo Mallari of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 4A said the widening from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes of Coron-Busuanga Road is currently being undertaken to improve access to famous tourist destinations both in Coron and Busuanga towns.
“A P100 million widening project of Coron-Busuanga Road is already ongoing to meet the high demand of tourists from F.B. Reyes International Airport in Busuanga going to Coron town proper and vice versa. Once completed, this will result to improved road safety and traffic flow especially during summer peak season,” said Director Mallari.
According to Director Mallari, a total of P2.26 Billion will be needed to fully complete the widening of Coron-Busuanga Road which stretches 73.6 kilometers.
“We hope for the continued funding of this project as this will support Coron’s tourism industry which is a driving force of job creation and poverty reduction in the area. Better roads will also provide convenience to locals especially small-scale traders transporting agricultural and fishery products to bigger markets,” added Director Mallari.
The widening of Coron-Busuanga Road which started in 2017 is being implemented by DPWH Palawan First District Engineering Office.
