DPWH-R10 builds New Diversion Drainage Line and Creek Channel along Camaman-an and Lapasan

Friday, February 22, 2019

Implementation has just started for two road drainage improvements in Barangay Camaman-an and Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, which are among the Department of Public Works and Highways Region X’s (DPWH X’s) lined-up projects in addressing the perennial urban flooding problem in the City.

Construction of the 1,230-meter Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert (RCBC) as the new diversion drainage line along Barangay Camaman-an Road will originate from Bitan-ag Creek upstream and end in Kolambog Creek outfall. The said RCBC will be located at the left lane of the existing roadway facing the said barangay road.

The project amounts to P91.3M and is eyed to be completed within this year if no other issues will be encountered.

Another project—channel improvement of Kolambog Creek from Barangay Camaman-an to Butuan City - Cagayan de Oro City - Iligan City Road (BCIR) and Macajalar Bay outfall in Barangay Lapasan—will connect the previous project which will comprise an open canal, a 16-meter flat slab bridge and an 894-meterlong RCBC.

DPWH Regional Office X targets to complete the P86.9M worth of channel improvement project this year if no other issues will be experienced along the way.

The two projects encountered a delay in the implementation due to the revision of plan and project alignment with the suggestions raised by the Local Barangay Units which were considered by the said Office.

As of date, a stop-and-go traffic scheme for partially closed road sections with ongoing project operations is implemented by the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA).
