DPWH-6 completes Evacuation Center in Negros Occidental

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a second permanent evacuation center in Western Visayas Region.

The newly completed Negros Occidental Evacuation Center has a total budget amount of P36 million standing in the city of San Carlos.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Wenceslao M. Leaño Jr., the 2-storey evacuation center project involves the construction of various building, inclusive of the accommodation building; office and infirmary building; laundry and drying area; male and female toilet and bath room; pump room; generator room; and materials recovery facility (MRF).

Director Leaño also said that the evacuation center will serve as temporary shelter for around 33 families or about 130 individuals from the city and neighboring towns in times of calamities and disasters.

Meanwhile, nine more evacuation centers will open soon to cater and provide shelter to the people when the need for help arises.

The ongoing projects are located in Sagay City and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental; Roxas City in Capiz; San Jose in Antique; Kalibo in Aklan; Nueva Valencia in Guimaras; and the towns of Carles, San Miguel and Zarraga in Iloilo.
