Barangay Police Officer locally called Tanods in Barangay Barayong, Abuyog, Leyte are lending their hands to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to deter plying of overloaded vehicles on highways.
In a report, DPWH Region 8 Director Nerie D. Bueno said that “Tanods” have helped engineers from DPWH Planning and Design Section in the conduct of a recent 8-day 24/7 Anti Truck Overloading Mobile Enforcement (ATOME) operation of large trucks plying the national road in Barangay Barayong.
The result of axle load survey is essential to DPWH in assessing the compliance of motorists to the Anti-Overloading Law or Republic Act No. 8794.
Axle load surveys are part of DPWH’s mandate in ensuring road safety with the collected data to be used in prescribing new appropriate design standards for roads and bridges and in the setting up of parameters for weight limits.
