Gender Mainstreaming
Acknowledgement at the Fourth World Conference on Women (Bijing Conference) 1995 as a method of entrenching the GAD approach.
Goal of gender mainstreaming is to achieve gender equality in all fields of society.
Projects in the ifrastructure sector have to contend with a number of gender issues,
including the following:
Different Groups of users may have a divergent requirements bases on seasonality
and location of their activities. Projects that are designed without considering the
variations may have a great impact on women's workload and access to resources.
Strategic Gender Needs (SGN)
Are concerned with changing the subordinate (disadvantage) position of women in society.
Measures to address tese needs are long-term in nature.
Practical Gender Needs (PGN)
What is Gender?
Gender is the distinction between women & women by socio-cultural factors. On the other hand,
the distinction between women and men by biological features is defined as Sex.
