Aklan Rainwater Collection System Underway

Monday, September 26, 2016

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Aklan District Engineering Office (DEO) is set to construct twenty (20) rainwater collection systems for the different public schools in the Province of Aklan.

A total amount of P3.2 Million from the FY 2016 Regular Infrastructure Program of the DPWH is programmed for the implementation of Rainwater Collection System (RWCS).

This is in compliance to Republic Act (R.A.) 6716 otherwise known as an act providing for the construction of water wells, rainwater collectors, development of springs and rehabilitation of existing water wells in several barangays.

Some twenty (20) different public schools benefitted from the RWCS construction that started July this year. The schools are from the twelve (12) different municipalities such as Makato, Banga, Ibajay, New Washington, Tangalan, Madalag, Nabas, Lezo, Altavas, Malinao, Batan and Libacao.

DPWH is readily facing the impacts of La Niña on the water resources and water infrastructure of Region 6. This project aims to satisfy the ever-increasing demand for water supply and the harvested rainwater can also be used for several agricultural and environmental purposes in the province.

As La Niña phenomenon looms in, District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella has step-up efforts in implementing water-influenced infrastructure projects for the Region, specifically the installation of rainwater collection systems in his jurisdiction.
