
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 met with various government agencies and non-government organizations (NGO) at the Penthouse I, Iloilo City to discuss a promotional campaign on National Sewerage and Septage Management Program (NSSMP).
The coordination meeting was attended by National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Finance (DOF), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Planning Office, Office of the City Mayor and Vice Mayor as well as Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) such as United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Manila Water and Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD).
Giving emphasis on the significant role of local government unit (LGU) and partner agencies in successfully implementing the NSSMP, DPWH included in the program an in-depth lecture on the NSSMP, its legal basis, implementer, and technology module.
A guideline on sanitation was discussed by the DOH while Manila Water presented their projects on sanitation and water treatment technology. DOF provided insights on financing agreements and noted the possibility of having the program subsidized by various institutions.
The NSSMP was conducted in line with Republic Act 9275 of the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 to address the problem on water sanitation in the region.
The NSSMP aims to address nation issues on sanitation and treatment as well as disposal of wastewater.
