The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI is currently undertaking the construction of a new maritime facility (Maritime Center) along Muelle Loney Street, here.

A ground breaking for the said project was held last January 6, which was attended by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, DPWH 6 Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) 6 Regional Director Mary Ann Z. Arcilla and other dignitaries.

According to Engr. Fruto, the said multi-purpose building project, with the contract amount of roughly P56.996 Million, funded under FY 2016 General Appropriations Act (GAA), is being implemented by the Regional Office thru a joint venture of Three W Builders, Inc. and R. A. Ignacio Construction Corporation.

“The project involves construction of a 4-Storey building with roof deck and elevator, including provision of perimeter fence, driveway, parking area and a soft scope,’ he explained.

“The project is expected to be completed on middle of next year, given no untoward circumstances such as weather condition,” he added.

The project aims to advance the interests of the Ilonggo’s maritime sector; promote maritime development; and safety through better information, cooperation and unity of effort among the stakeholders of the maritime industry.

Arcilla, likewise said that “the establishment of MARINA’s own building is a milestone and (we) are lucky enough to be the first region to have its own MARINA Regional Office building.”
