Residents of Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila are the recent beneficiaries of a flood-control project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH National Capital Region Director Loreta M. Malaluan, said that the DPWH South Manila District Engineering Office has extended its slope protection project along the riverside of Baseco Compound by 272.8 linear meters, supplementing three (3) completed phases last year and early this year.

Director Malaluan said that the newly-completed project costing P96.49 million is the fourth phase of a slope protection project which will serve as the first line of defense of the residents against river overflow and flooding.

The project which was carried out from May 2024 to January 2025 also aims to prevent soil erosion, and improve water quality in the area.

DPWH earlier completed three (3) phases of the slope protection project in Baseco Compound costing P285.34 million, while three (3) succeeding phases are underway and will be funded under 2025 General Appropriations Act.
