The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has successfully completed a road rehabilitation project aimed at improving transportation efficiency and safety along the Cabanatuan City–Carmen Road in Aliaga, Nueva Ecija.
The ₱87.81-million project, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), involved the rehabilitation of a 3.83-kilometer, two-lane national road with portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP). The project also included shoulder construction and the installation of a cross drain, covering Barangays San Juan, Bucot, Santo Tomas, Macabucod, and Carmen.
According to the report submitted to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan by DPWH Region 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino, the damaged road pavement had long been a transportation bottleneck and a hindrance to economic activities. Severe pavement deterioration caused by high traffic volume and wear over time had resulted in frequent delays, vehicle damage, and safety risks for commuters.
“The completion of this project ensures a more reliable and safer route for thousands of road users daily, significantly improving accessibility and overall travel experience in the area. This aligns with the objectives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More Program,” Director Tolentino said.
Implemented by the DPWH Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineering Office, the project benefits approximately 13,000 daily commuters by reducing travel time between Barangay San Felipe Bata and Zaragoza Proper, cutting the journey to just 18 minutes.
