Riverside communities in Barangay San Nicolas, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro are now reassured from the harrowing impact of persistent flooding following the completion of a flood control structure along the Panggalaan River undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Based on the report of DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the completed project is a crucial preventive measure designed to protect susceptible areas in Barangay San Nicolas greatly affected by the destructive flooding causing detrimental damages to their crops, livestock, and properties.
“The revetment wall built in the Panggalaan River primarily helps enhance communities’ resilience against flooding while encouraging more livelihood and business activities in the area, contributing to the economic upswing in the region,” added Director Pacanan.
Implemented by DPWH Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office, the flood control project involves the construction of a 250-lineal meter concrete revetment with steel sheet piles, fortifying the resiliency of the structure for the riverside communities in Naujan.
Costing P96.49 Million, the completed flood control structure is funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024.
