The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a revetment structure project to safeguard a flood-prone area in Barangay Tabi, Gubat, Sorsogon.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio C. Eduarte said that a 320-meter flood-control project was implemented to shield a populated area of Barangay Tabi from the destructive impact of seasonal flooding.
“Prior to the project’s completion, typhoon and monsoon rains would cause the overflow of the river in the area, freely flooding adjacent riverside and agricultural lands. Our dike now prevents this destruction from happening,” said Director Eduarte.
The P48.99 million flood-control project in Barangay Tabi was completed three (3) months ahead of schedule by the DPWH Sorsogon 2nd District Engineering Office under the leadership of OIC-District Engineer Jorge F. Gurimbao.
The completed project also covered the installation of reinforced cement pipe culvert as drainage, metal railings as a safety feature, as well as a pathway space which can be utilized by locals for cycling and other forms of exercise.
