The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is ramping up the ongoing construction of a flood control structure along the Sta. Fe River which aims to protect agricultural lands and residential areas from flooding in Barangay Bone North, Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 2, said that the construction of the flood mitigation structure along the Sta. Fe River is now 74.28 percent and is targeted to be completed by October 2024.
The project involves the construction of a 9,960-square-meter (1,660 linear meter) rubble concrete revetment structure with a gabion mattress footing.
The flood mitigation project is a continuation of the existing flood control structure completed in 2022 aimed at safeguarding the community from potential flooding.
“Upon completion, the structure will not only mitigate the risks posed by seasonal floods but will also contribute in enhancing the overall land area of the community, making it more resilient to extreme weather events,” said Secretary Bonoan.
The flood control project in Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya, is being implemented by the DPWH Nueva Vizcaya Second District Engineering Office in the amount of P94 million, funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
