The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of the Causeway with a Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) Ramp and Testle (Phase II) Project in a coastal community in the municipality of Paluan, significantly improving mobility and inter-island connectivity in Occidental Mindoro.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan said that the construction of the causeway structure with a RoRo ramp in Barangay Marikit primarily aims to streamline the movement of local goods and product trading to its neighboring islands pivotal to the economic upswing in Paluan.

“The installation of the RoRo ramp is a crucial measure that will aid local businesses, fishermen, and merchants by providing access and enhanced security for rowboats and essential watercraft, fortifying the region’s opportunities for sustainable livelihood,” added Director Pacanan.

Implemented by the DPWH Mindoro Occidental District Engineering Office, the project involves the construction of a trestle with mooring bollards and is also installed with a reinforced concrete platform in the causeway designed to avoid vessel collisions and ensure the resiliency and durability of the structure.

Since the completion of the project, residents in Barangay Marikit have seen substantial improvement in their economic activities, hence contributing to a better quality of life in the region.

The causeway structure was completed in the amount of P96.49 Million funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2023.
