The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed the construction of the Toran River Control Project, which aims to protect lives and properties from frequent flooding caused by high tides of Cagayan River in Aparri, Cagayan.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Regional Office II Director Reynaldo C. Alconcel, said that the newly completed flood control project stretches over 250 linear meters with 2-berm concrete revetment and steel sheet piles.
Additionally, a 2-lane portland cement concrete pavement with a 6.70-meter-wide carriageway and 0.30-meter thickness was built as part of the project, ensuring better access and traffic flow in the area.
The project also plays a pivotal role in preserving the old port area, emphasizing the importance of maintaining transportation channels for ferry boats and ships bound for Calayan and Fuga Islands.
Funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the flood control project in Aparri, Cagayan, was completed in the amount of P86.9 million.
