Residents of Barangay San Carlos, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, have seen significant development in their agricultural and livelihood activities following the completion of a flood control project along the Mag-Asawang Tubig River by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Based on the report of DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the completed project is an essential piece of infrastructure for Barangay San Carlos which is among the vulnerable communities in the Municipality of Naujan mostly affected by the destructive effect of flooding.

“The constructed river wall provides a sense of relief and security to the residents against the threat of flooding and water overflowing that causes detrimental damage to their crops, livestock, and properties for many years,” added Director Pacanan.

Implemented by DPWH Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office, the flood control project involves the construction of a 268.27-lineal meter concrete revetment with steel sheet piles to minimize the adverse impact of flooding on the local community in the municipality of Naujan.

Costing P48.9 Million, the completed flood control structure is funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024.
