
A slope protection structure was recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to safeguard residents and livestock in Barangay Kita-Kita, Balungao, Province of Pangasinan.
According to an update by DPWH Regional Office I Director Ronnel M. Tan to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the slope protection project with a total length of 826 meters was strategically built along the Cabalancian River to improve the community’s safety against flooding due to river overflow.
After careful planning, implementation, and consideration of community and environmental factors, the slope protection project was completed with the end in mind of providing long-term economic stability, economic protection, and enhanced social well -being of the local residents.
Funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2024, the project consists of three (3) phases: Phase 1 spans 250 meters costing P48.40-million, Phase 2 spans 212 meters costing P38.77-million, and P95.41-million for the 364-meter-long final phase, combining a total of P182.58-million.
Implemented by the Pangasinan 3rd Disstrict Engineering Office, the slope protection was seven (7) months ahead of its completion date—a testament to the District’s commitment to efficient community safety enhancement.
