The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has implemented structural measures to prevent the flooding destructions of Agno River in agricultural lands of Buguias, Benguet Province.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Cordillera Administrative Region Director Khadaffy Tanggol, said that two (2) flood mitigation projects with combined cost of P144.7 million were recently completed along sections of Agno River in Baoknit, Barangay Bangao and in Barangay Calamagan.

“Without proper flood defenses, farmers in the area are vulnerable to frequent and unpredictable flooding events that damage their crops, especially during the rainy season and typhoons. The completion of these projects will prevent these circumstances from happening,” said Director Tanggol.

Constructed in Baoknit, Bangao section are concrete revetment structures on both sides of Agno River measuring 1.2 kilometer while another 1.24-kilometer river dike was implemented on both banks of Calamagan section.

Both project were implemented and completed by DPWH Benguet 2nd District Engineering Office under the leadership of District Engineer in the last quarter of 2023 which is 3-5 months ahead of scheduled completion.
