A flood control and an asphalt overlay project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now benefit local communities in the cities of Lamitan and Isabela, Basilan.
Completed in Lamitan City is a 740-meter flood control structure along the upstream of Santa Clara River.
“With an all-weather structure, residents of Barangay Santa Clara and its surrounding communities are now better protected against the adverse effects of water overflow,” said DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia.
Built in the amount of P55 million, the project features stone masonry and rubble concrete to prevent soil erosion and stabilize slopes under seepage.
Director Dia also reported the completion of asphalt overlay along a 1.6-kilometer section of Basilan Circumferential Road in Isabela City as preventive maintenance.
With the improved road condition, about 4,000 locals in Barangay Cabunbata will benefit from smoother delivery of goods to larger markets and easier access to basic services.
“Motorists from the city now experience safer, faster, and more convenient travel going to the west district part of the island province,” said Director Dia.
Costing P37.7 million, other works include the installation of solar street lights and reflectorized pavement markings as safety features.
Both projects were implemented by DPWH Isabela City District Engineering Office.
