Travelers are now safer from rockfall and soil erosion with the recently completed installation of a road slope protection structure along a major thoroughfare in the municipality of President Roxas, North Cotabato province.

Based on his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 12 Director Basir M. Ibrahim stated that the 3,482-square meter road slope protection project along Paco-Roxas-Arakan Valley-Jct. Davao Bukidnon Road located in Barangay Poblacion was undertaken to serve as a reinforcement and mitigate the risk of fatal road accidents.

Prone to landslide during rainy days, the road section has been closed frequently, causing inconvenience to students, delivery truck drivers, and employees traversing the road on a daily basis.

Scope of works on the slope protection project include laying of erosion control mat, installation of high tensile wire mesh, and soil nailing using a 32-mm diameter bar with 5-meter permanent ground anchors.

The installed structure will ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians by serving as a barrier system to reduce potential damage caused by soil erosion and sudden rock falls.

Completed in March 2024, the project was implemented by DPWH Region 12 in the amount of ₱96.44 million from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
