Low-lying areas along section of Bucayao River in Barangay San Luis, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro are now better protected from the threat of rapid water overflow following the completion of a flood mitigation structure undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Implemented by the DPWH Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office, the project involves the construction of a 95.48-lineal meter concrete revetment pavement with steel sheet piles in mitigating the risks of flooding and water overflowing to the local communities, specifically to the agricultural lands, livestock, and properties in Barangay San Luis.

Based on the report of DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the completed project is one of the numerous flood mitigation interventions that the Department has established along the Bucayao River, including the construction of flood control projects in the essential areas of the municipalities of Calapan and Naujan.

“The newly built protective structure in Barangay San Luis assures residents heightened safety from the threat of water overflow that has been affecting their livelihood, properties, and agricultural activities for many years,” added Director Pacanan.

Funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the flood control project was completed in the amount of P48.9 Million.
