DPWH Improves Flow of Itaran, Maynaga Rivers in Polangui, Albay

Two (2) flood control structures were recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to protect riverside communities in the town of Polangui, Albay Province.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office V Director Virgilio C. Eduarte and DPWH Albay 3rd District Engineer Cornelio J. Relativo said that Barangays Buyo and Maynaga are the recepient of river structures costing P94.44 million.

“With the completion of these river walls, we significantly reduced the risk of river overflow and flooding along the low-lying areas, especially during long periods of heavy rainfall and typhoons,” said District Engineer Relativo.

Completed in Barangay Buyo is a revetment along the 310-meter section of Itaran River with a height of six (6) meters while another 333-meter structure was constructed along Maynaga River with a height of five (5) meters.

Both projects include a single barrel box culvert and railings to improve safety and accessibility of the structure.
