The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed ahead of schedule the construction of a seawall to protect the coastal portion of a local road in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.

According to DPWH Regional Office 11 Director Juby B. Cordon, a 319-meter concrete seawall with deflector and drainage now ensures the structural integrity of the section of Tibanban-Lavigan Road along the coast of Davao Gulf.

Director Cordon, in a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, further explained that concrete blocks and hexapods were installed parallel to the completed protective structure for additional fortification, while a gravel road on the embankment measuring 288.75 meters was also provided in preparation for possible road lane expansion in the future.

The newly-completed seawall is expected to lessen maintenance cost for the existing national road portion that was once severely damaged by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in December 2021.

Tibanban-Lavigan Road serves the southern part of Governor Generoso – an area rich in both agriculture and marine products in need of efficient road transport for the delivery of goods to markets and trading centers within the town and throughout the entire province.

The DPWH Davao Oriental Second District Engineering Office (DEO) implemented the P95.53-million project with funding sourced from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
