The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has paved additional portion of an access road leading to the iconic, four (4)-tiered Pinipisakan Falls in the Municipality of San Jorge, Samar Province.

The completed Phase 2 of the tourism road project covers the construction of another 800-meter 2-lane road with shoulders, reinforced concrete pipe culvert (RCPC) for drainage, and slope protection structures along selected section to ensure road safety.

Citing a report submitted by DPWH Samar First District Engineer Raulito F. Yangzon, DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon said that the access road is a continuing multi-year project implemented under the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP), which aims to concrete pave a total of 9.9 kilometers of gravel road going to Pinipisakan Falls.

This year’s project under Phase 2 was implemented in the amount of P48.95-million funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“With a total paved length of 1.35 kilometers, the road project when fully completed will facilitate easier access for patrons wishing to visit the Pinipisakan Falls via safer and faster land travel instead of the three-hour boat ride and trekking,” said District Engineer Yangzon.

Aside from boosting tourism and reducing travel time of local residents, the project is also expected to promote small and medium-sized enterprises and create more livelihood opportunities for locals.
