The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has delivered two (2) slope protection projects in the towns of Binalbagan and La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
Based on the report of DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, a 251.8-lineal meter river bank protection was completed at the upstream of Guintubhan River along Binalbagan-Isabela Road.
“The P96.5-million project provides defense against overflow brought on by strong and turbulent mountain water, ensuring the protection of lives, properties, and livelihood in the area,” said Director Bueno.
Meanwhile, DPWH Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office is undertaking the installation of a 143-meter high tensile wire mesh along Vallehermoso-Canlaon City-La Castellana Road to protect motorists and pedestrians from possible landslides and rockfall.
The P48.3-million road slope protection will also prevent soil erosion that may cause damage to the road and ensure continuous agricultural productivity by protecting farmlands and vegetable plantations in the town.
“These slope protection structures are among the significant contributions of the Department in ensuring the safety and welfare of local communities of La Castellana, Negros Occidental,” said Director Bueno.
