The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P47-million flood-mitigation structure in Zamboanga City in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region.

According to DPWH Regional Office IX Director Cayamombao D. Dia, the 315-linear meter shoreline protection structure with one (1)-meter crest width provides protection for residential and agricultural areas in the coastal barangay of Limpapa against flooding, storm surge, and strong water current.

Meanwhile, an amount of P50 million was allotted from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the project’s on-going second phase, which covers 283 linear meters and is meant to redirect coastal water away from the area.

“DPWH will continue fast-tracking projects that will address the need of local communities and ensure the safety of lives, properties, and livelihood” said Director Dia.

The construction works for the flood control project were undertaken by DPWH Zamboanga City District Engineering Office.
