A coastal community in the Municipality of Manay in Davao Oriental is now better protected come rainy season after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) built a seawall structure along the main road in the area.

DPWH Regional Office 11 OIC-Director Judy B. Cordon, in a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary for Mindanao Operations Eugenio R. Pipo, Jr., said that the protective structure along Surigao del Sur Bdry.-Davao Oriental Coastal Road protects the coastal barangay of Tagtalisay from threats of storm surges.

The completed project consists the construction of a 604-lineal-meter seawall and the extension of a 29 lineal-meter double barrel reinforced concrete box culvert and a 16 lineal-meter reinforced concrete pipe culvert that controls and maintains the natural flow of water draining to the Pacific Ocean.

According to OIC-Director Cordon, the installation of 11 solar LED lights and provision of bank and slope protection structures were also included in the project to provide safety to motorists traversing the Barangay Tagtalisay section of Surigao del Sur Bdry.-Davao Oriental Coastal Road.

The construction of the P67.55-million seawall was implemented by DPWH Davao Oriental First District Engineering Office (DEO) with funding sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022.
