As part of its thrust to enhance mobility and improve connectivity, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has commenced construction works on a diversion road that will benefit the people of Janiuay and other nearby towns in Iloilo Province.
Costing ₱38.4 million, the 1.14-kilometer diversion road project involves the construction of a 2-lane, 6.7-meter wide portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) road with elevation on curves. It also includes provision of lined canal, cross drainage, and slope protection.
The diversion road will minimize traffic congestion and improve road safety especially in the town proper, reducing travel time from Janiuay to the neighboring municipalities of Cabatuan and Mina.
Moreover, the diversion road will also serve as an alternate route leading to Iloilo International Airport and Iloilo Sea Port which will augment socio-economic development in the area.
The construction of the road was launched recently with DPWH Region 6 Assistant Director Jose Al V. Fruto representing Director Nerie D. Bueno spearheading the groundbreaking ceremony.
Also present in the project kick-off were Iloilo Provincial Governor Arthur R. Defensor, Jr., Iloilo 3rd Congressional District Representative Lorenz R. Defensor, Uswag Ilonggo Partylist Representative James Ang, Jr., Janiuay Mayor Paulino Parian, and District Engineer Sanny Boy O. Oropel of DPWH Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office.
