Wednesday, April 13, 2022

Engineers, maintenance crew and equipment of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are on the ground to continuously monitor road conditions and carry out clearing and restoration activities.

DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado said that efforts are in full swing with men and machinery deployed at various points to clear roadblocks brought by tropical depression “Agaton” specifically in the Visayas.

As of 7AM Wednesday April 13, 2022, twenty-nine (29) road sections are closed to traffic due to flooding, soil slope collapse, soil erosion, landslide, rockslide, road cut, road slip/depression, hollow abutment, and abrupt increase of water level elevation: thirteen (13) in Region VI; two (2) in Region VII; and fourteen (14) in Region VIII.

Despite incessant rainfall, DPWH personnel have already managed to clear eight (8) of the total 37 road sections and re-open to traffic.

Also, there are twenty-nine (29) road sections with limited access due to soil slope collapse, flooding, landslide, road slip, soil erosion, fallen trees/debris, sinking/damaged paved road, scouring of shoulder, settled foundation, and damaged bridge approach.

The road sections with limited access are located in the following regions: one (1) in Region IV-A; five (5) in Region VI; two (2) in Region VI; seventeen (17) in Region VIII; one (1) in Region X; one (1) in Region XI; and two (2) in Region XII.
